After two years of consultation, design and programming, Crucial Interactive Media launched what is being billed the UK's premier tourism website on 16th April 2002.
At a prestigious launch event in York's City Screen cinema complex, CIM's James Houston presented the new online marketing initiative to the great and good of the city - including a guest appearance from the city's Railway King George Hudson.
The site has been designed to fully exploit the latest new media technology as a highly interactive portal to the best of the city's tourism, retail and residents' attractions - including a sophisticated events promotion system and full content management. Said James Houston, "York Multimedia is delighted to have been selected to build what is likely to be the busiest website in the region, and to design a marketing tool for York which will be used by millions of people throughout the UK and the world to find out about our historic city."
"It's much more than just a website. We've built a highly sophisticated system to enable a huge amount of information to be collated in a central database, for output to print, web, email - and WAP and other formats in the future. Members of the public, event organisers, shops, attractions and all sorts of others can have direct access to update and maintain the system - so York will benefit from a central, up-to-the minute information source detailing everything there is to see and do in the city."
"This website thrusts York straight into the 21st century, and beyond. Our brief was to build the UK's premier tourism site, and this is it!"
